01Overview

Every fin, every face

The radial-vane geometry is what turns motor rotation into regenerated pressure. A rotatable 3D model of the YEBL-IMP is on the way; until then, the render shows the cast fin form, the hub and the bored, keyed centre that fixes it to the shaft.

Ordering a spare is the highest-value maintenance you can do on a side-channel blower — the rotor costs a fraction of a new machine and restores it to rated output.

02Working Principle

How One Disc Builds Pressure

A single radial-vane aluminium disc spins inside the side channel and, on every revolution, throws each pocket of air outward and scoops it back dozens of times — the regeneration that builds pressure. The disc never contacts the housing, so it is the only moving part in the air path and the only part that ever wears.

03THE FIVE DIMENSIONS

Five numbers decide fit and performance

An impeller is not a generic disc. Five measured figures determine whether it fits the shaft, seats in the channel and delivers the rated pressure. Get any one wrong and the blower either will not assemble or will not perform.

  • OD — outside diameterSets how the impeller seats in the side channel. Too large will not turn; too small loses the regeneration that builds pressure. Ranges 215–470 mm across the seven sizes.
  • Ø bore — inside diameterThe shaft fit. Must match the motor shaft it mounts on, 19–60 mm. This, with the keyway, transmits torque without slip.
  • Thickness (t)Axial width of the vane disc, 29–66 mm. Sets the fit between channel faces and the volume each vane pocket carries.
  • KeywayKey size, 5–12 mm, that locks the impeller to the shaft. Must match the shaft key exactly for concentric, slip-free drive.
  • Fin count (Z)Number of radial vanes, 52–58. Sets how many regeneration events occur per revolution — the fin count is a performance parameter, not cosmetic.
  • BalanceNot a caught dimension but decisive: every YEBL-IMP is dynamically balanced so it runs true at speed. An unbalanced disc vibrates and kills bearings.

Die-Cast, Machined, Balanced

Every YEBL-IMP is die-cast in aluminium alloy, machined and then dynamically balanced so the disc runs true at motor speed with the fine channel clearance regeneration needs. Balance matters as much as the dimensions: an out-of-balance impeller vibrates, loads the bearings and loses pressure.

06REPLACEMENT & CARE

Replacing the Rotor

Replacing an impeller is straightforward but exacting. Isolate and lock out the motor, open the blower cover, and note the impeller orientation and any shims before removal. Draw the old rotor off the shaft, clean the shaft and keyway, and inspect the side channel: if it is smooth, a new impeller restores rated performance; if it is scored, the housing needs attention too. Fit the new YEBL-IMP with the correct key, set the running clearance to the manufacturer’s figure, and confirm the disc turns freely by hand before power-on.

Then protect your work. The single reason impellers wear is ingested particles across that fine clearance, so the new rotor is only as durable as the inlet filterin front of it. Keep the filter clean, guard vacuum lines against liquid carry-over, and log the blower’s baseline current — a rising amp draw is the earliest sign the clearance is closing up again.

Replacement checklist

  • Isolate and lock out the motor before opening the cover.
  • Record orientation, shims and clearance of the old rotor.
  • Inspect the side channel; renew the housing only if scored.
  • Fit the matched YEBL-IMP with the correct key; set clearance.
  • Turn by hand, confirm rotation, log baseline amps on start.

Which blower does your impeller serve?

These rotors are the wearing part inside our side-channel blower families. Identify the blower, count the stages, then match the five dimensions. A single stage uses one impeller; a double or triple stage uses two or three on one shaft, sometimes stepped between sizes.

  • Single Stage · YEBL-1 One impeller per unit. Match OD, bore, thickness, key and fin count to the worn rotor.
  • Double Stage · YEBL-DS Two impellers on one shaft. Confirm whether both stages share a size or step between two.
  • High Pressure · YEBL-HP Two or three staged impellers. Identify the stage position before ordering the replacement.

What exactly does the impeller do inside a side-channel blower?
It is the machine. A single vaned aluminium disc spins inside the side channel and, on every revolution, throws each pocket of air outward and scoops it back dozens of times — the regeneration that builds pressure. Because it is the only moving part in the air path and never contacts the housing, the impeller is also the only part that ever wears. Replace it and the blower is effectively renewed.
How do I identify the correct replacement impeller?
Measure the old part and match five figures against the YEBL-IMP table: outside diameter (OD), bore inside diameter, thickness, keyway size and the total fin count. All five must match — OD and thickness set the fit in the channel, bore and key set the fit on the shaft, and the fin count sets the performance. When in doubt, send us the blower model number and the five measurements and we will confirm.
Which blower families do these impellers fit?
The YEBL-IMP range covers the rotors used across our single-stage (YEBL-1), double-stage (YEBL-DS) and high-pressure (YEBL-HP) side-channel blowers — a double or triple stage simply uses two or three impellers on one shaft. Match by measured dimensions, not by blower name alone, because a given OD can appear on more than one family.
Can I replace just the impeller, or the whole blower?
Usually just the impeller. If the housing side channel is unscored and the motor bearings are sound, a new impeller restores the blower to rated performance at a fraction of a new-unit cost. Replace the housing only if the channel itself is scored — most often the result of running without an inlet filter.
Why did my impeller wear out?
Almost always ingested particles. The clearance between impeller and channel is tight by design; a swallowed particle scores both. The two preventable causes are a missing or dirty inlet filter and liquid or debris carry-over on vacuum duty. Fit and maintain a filter, and an impeller lasts years even on 24/7 duty.
What material and balance are the impellers supplied to?
