A moving-bed biofilm reactor grows its biology on plastic carrier media that must stay in constant motion, and the blower does double duty: it supplies the oxygen the biofilm needs and it provides the air scour that keeps the carriers tumbling so the film stays active and the bed does not stagnate. That means a steady, generous airflow at the pressure the tank depth sets, running continuously. Because the air must both oxygenate and agitate, MBBR aeration tends to want a touch more airflow than a plain activated-sludge basin of the same depth. A ring blower delivers it oil-free; deeper tanks or long grids step up to a two-stage blower for the head.

How is MBBR aeration different from normal aeration?
In an MBBR the air must both oxygenate the biofilm and scour the plastic carrier media so it keeps tumbling and stays active. That usually calls for a bit more airflow than a plain basin of the same depth, often through a coarse-bubble grid. A ring blower supplies it oil-free; size it for both oxygen and media motion.
What pressure does an MBBR blower need?
The pressure follows tank depth — roughly 100 mbar per metre of water above the diffusers plus diffuser loss — so a 3–4 m tank lands in the 300–550 mbar band. Shallower tanks suit a single-stage ring blower; deeper tanks or long grids move to a two-stage YEBL-DS for the head.
