02THE FACTORS & WHY THEY MATTER
Air-movement engineering is a Tower of Babel of units. A European datasheet quotes m³/hr and millibar; an American one quotes CFM and inches of water; a vacuum pump is rated in mmHg or torr; a motor is stamped in HP on one page and kW on the next. A single specification error in that translation propagates straight into an oversized or undersized machine. This converter exists to remove that error, giving four tabbed calculators that convert instantly and in both directions.
Flow
Converts between cubic metres per hour, CFM, litres per minute and cubic metres per minute. The anchor is 1 CFM = 1.699 m³/hr; 1 m³/hr = 16.667 LPM; 1 m³/min = 60 m³/hr. Volumetric flow is the first number that must agree between a duty requirement and a model rating, and it is the one most often quoted in mismatched units.
Pressure and vacuum
The pressure tab spans mbar, PSI, kPa, mmH₂O, mmHg, inH₂O and Pascals — the full spread found on blower curves and gauge readings — using standard factors: 1 mbar = 0.0145 PSI = 0.1 kPa = 100 Pa = 0.75 mmHg. The vacuum tab handles absolute pressure in mbar against mmHg and torr, which are numerically identical (1 torr = 1 mmHg). Keeping pressure and vacuum on separate tabs avoids the classic sign-and-reference confusion between gauge pressure and absolute vacuum.
Power
Horsepower to kilowatts and back, at 1 HP = 0.7457 kW. Motor ratings, energy calculations and tariff maths all need power in a consistent unit, and this is the conversion that quietly underlies the energy savings calculator elsewhere in this suite.
