Air & Vacuum for the Automotive & Engineering Sector

Sheet-metal and auto-system makers run stamping, welding and painting at scale — a combination that leans on vacuum for panel handling and centrifugal air for fume and paint.

CTXWhat this sector runs

Stamping and welding shops throw fume and spatter that extraction air has to pull clear of operators, and the paint line needs high-pressure supply and exhaust for booths. These are continuous, high-static-pressure centrifugal duties that define the shop's air budget.

The defining vacuum duty is panel handling — press-line de-stacking, robotic pick-and-place and fixture hold-down of large sheet-metal parts. That wants vacuum that holds under rapid cycling and, ideally, blow-off to release parts cleanly. The recommended split is centrifugal air for weld and paint, vacuum for panel handling.

ENGEngineering notes

Static pressure across a big weld shop

Ducted fume extraction over a large weld shop carries real resistance — long runs, bends and loading filters — and airflow only holds if the blower has the static pressure to push through it. A low-pressure fan stalls as the system resists; a high-pressure centrifugal holds airflow across the duct's whole length. Sizing from the total system resistance, not just the hood airflow, is what keeps fume moving away from operators through a full shift, and it is the basis of the HP-centrifugal recommendation here.

Grip and release on panel handling

Robotic and press-line panel handling needs vacuum that grips hard and releases cleanly, fast. Pure vacuum grips but can be slow to let go; a shot of blow-off strips the panel off the cups instantly. Pairing a YELV pump for the handling header with a YBVP machine where quick release matters covers both, sized to the panel area and cycle rate. That combination keeps a fast press line from being paced by a sticky vacuum cup.

A supplier's uptime is the OEM's

For a tier-one sheet-metal supplier, a stoppage does not stay in-house — it propagates to the OEM's line, so the air machinery behind welding and panel handling has to be serviced without delay. That makes the domestic spares chain and quick rebuilds part of the specification, alongside sizing extraction from real ductwork resistance and handling vacuum for fast grip-and-release. Keeping a spare on the shelf and standardising families means a worn machine is back in days. On work where the customer's line depends on yours, machinery chosen for how quickly it recovers is as important as the duty it was chosen to do.

FAQFrequently asked questions

What vacuum suits robotic panel handling?

Vacuum that holds through rapid cycles and releases cleanly. The recommendation pairs a YELV pump for the handling header with a YBVP oil-free machine where blow-off is needed to strip parts off the cups.

Why high-pressure centrifugal for weld-fume?

Because ducted extraction across a big weld shop needs static pressure to overcome the ductwork and filters. A high-pressure centrifugal blower holds airflow against that resistance where a low-pressure fan would stall.
