DTYWhy thermoforming wants deep vacuum, fast

Thermoforming is a race against a cooling sheet. When the hot plastic drops onto the mould the pump has to evacuate the cavity almost instantly and pull a deep vacuum so the sheet snaps into every detail before it stiffens. That combination — deep ultimate vacuum plus a fast pull-down — is why forming lines run a vacuum surge tank kept evacuated by the pump between shots, so peak demand is met by stored vacuum and the pump only has to recover. An oil-sealed rotary vane pump gives the deepest, most repeatable ultimate vacuum for crisp detail; a dry oil-free pump does the same job cleaner where oil carryover is unwanted, at slightly less ultimate.

Yash offers the full vacuum ladder for forming — ACME oil-sealed high-vacuum pumps for the deepest pull, YBDVP dry pumps where the process must stay oil-free, and liquid-ring pumps where the air is warm and moisture-laden. All ISO 9001:2015 and built for continuous forming-shop duty in Faridabad, sized against your tank volume and cycle time rather than a nameplate.

SZESizing note

Size the pump on recovery time, not peak: pick a surge-tank volume that meets the per-cycle displacement, then choose a pump that pulls the tank back down to setpoint within the cycle. Deeper ultimate vacuum buys sharper detail on thin-gauge parts.

Indicative only — final selection depends on your exact duty point, altitude and air temperature. Send the numbers and an engineer confirms the model.

FAQVacuum Pump for Thermoforming Machine — FAQs

What vacuum level does a thermoforming machine need?
Most forming needs a deep vacuum in the −800 to −930 mbar range to pull sheet into fine detail. Ultimate vacuum matters most on thin-gauge, high-definition parts; run it through an evacuated surge tank so the pump meets the per-shot demand from stored vacuum and only has to recover between cycles.
Oil-sealed or dry vacuum pump for thermoforming?
Oil-sealed rotary vane (ACME) gives the deepest ultimate vacuum and is the traditional choice for crisp detail. A dry YBDVP pump reaches slightly less ultimate but keeps the process oil-free with no oil changes — preferable for food-contact or clean forming. We size either against your tank volume and cycle.
