Air & Vacuum for the Cables & Electrical Sector

Cable manufacturing is an extrusion business, and extrusion is a thermal business — which is why cooling air and vacuum sit at the heart of every insulation and sheathing line.

CTXWhat this sector runs

After the extruder lays insulation or sheath onto the conductor, the line runs through cooling troughs where centrifugal air accelerates and stabilises cooling so the cable holds its dimensions at speed. Get the cooling air wrong and the line either slows down or drifts out of tolerance.

Vacuum appears in the extrusion head and cooling section for degassing and calibration, drawing off volatiles and seating the cooling. Reading a cable line as centrifugal cooling air plus process vacuum for degassing and calibration is the recommended structure.

ENGEngineering notes

Cooling air sets line speed

After the extruder lays insulation, the cooling troughs decide how fast the line can run while holding dimensions — cool it faster and steadier, and the line speeds up without drifting out of tolerance. Centrifugal air is the lever, and a drifting blower means a drifting cable. A dynamically balanced CX machine holds trough airflow constant so the line runs at rated speed with consistent wall and diameter, which is why balanced centrifugals are the recommended cooling class on cable lines.

Degassing at the head

Process vacuum at the extrusion head and calibration section draws off volatiles and seats the cooling, controlling voids and dimensions in the insulation. It is a steady duty that runs the length of the campaign, so the pump is chosen for stable hold rather than peak. A YELV vacuum pump matched to the head's demand keeps degassing consistent, complementing the cooling air so the finished cable meets both its electrical and dimensional spec.

Rebuildable, domestically

Cable extrusion runs long campaigns that wear cooling blowers and vacuum pumps over time, so the ability to rebuild them domestically is a real part of the value. In-house impeller casting and balancing means a worn rotor is re-supplied from the same works that built it, against the original spec, on a domestic timeline rather than an import queue. Sizing cooling and vacuum with margin gives headroom against fouling between overhauls. For a cable plant where a stalled cooling section scraps product fast, machinery that can be rebuilt and re-supplied quickly at home is machinery that protects the campaign.

WHYWhy Yash Blowers

Extrusion lines run long campaigns, and a cooling blower that drifts costs tonnes of scrap. Yash Blowers casts and dynamically balances its own impellers in Faridabad — running since 1998 under ISO 9001:2015 — which keeps cooling airflow steady; with 300+ machines dispatched a day, a replacement is domestic and quick.

FAQFrequently asked questions

Why does cable cooling need centrifugal air specifically?

Because the trough needs steady, directed airflow to cool the extrudate uniformly at line speed. A dynamically balanced CX-series centrifugal blower holds that airflow constant, which is what keeps cable dimensions in tolerance.

Where does vacuum fit on a cable line?

At the extrusion head and calibration section, for degassing volatiles and seating the cooling. A YELV vacuum pump is the recommended source for that steady process vacuum.
