In a refinery, the deodoriser is the headline vacuum duty: it pulls a deep vacuum, continuously, to strip volatiles under steam. Vacuum drying and bleaching add further process vacuum, and these duties run for long campaigns rather than in short bursts, so the vacuum train has to be built for stamina.

Downstream of the refinery, the consumer-packing floor is a different world — pouch and bottle filling of oils, and often flour, rice and other packaged staples, all wanting hygienic oil-free hold-down vacuum. Reading the site as a deep-vacuum process block plus an oil-free packing block is the recommended way to size it.

Building the deodoriser vacuum train

Deodorisation is the defining vacuum duty of an oil refinery: deep vacuum held continuously through long campaigns, often produced by a train of pumps rather than a single machine. Sizing it starts from the process depth the spec demands and the vapour load at temperature, then works back to the pump combination that holds it with margin. Stamina matters more than peak — the train runs for days — so the recommendation is high-capacity YELV pumps arranged with redundancy, so a service never breaks a campaign.

Isolating the packing floor

Downstream of the refinery, oil, flour and staples pack on hygienic lines that want moderate oil-free vacuum. Tapping that from the deep-vacuum process train would be a false economy: the depths are different, the duties are different, and a fault on either side would drag the other down. The clean approach is dedicated dry YBDVP pumps on the packing floor, sized to their own peak draw, leaving the deodoriser train to do the one heavy job it exists for.

Stamina and redundancy

Refinery vacuum is a stamina duty — deodoriser trains run for days — so the machinery is chosen for sustained hold and arranged with redundancy so a service never breaks a campaign. In-house impeller casting means a worn pump is rebuilt and re-supplied domestically rather than waiting on an import, and sizing the train with margin gives headroom as clearances open. Keeping the packing floor on its own dedicated pumps isolates it from the process train. For a refiner whose throughput depends on the deodoriser staying up, machinery chosen for stamina and backed by domestic rebuild capability is what protects the campaign.
