Air & Vacuum for the Pharma, Medical & Healthcare Sector

Medical-device manufacturing — catheters, cannulae, IV sets — combines polymer extrusion and moulding with clean assembly, and vacuum runs through much of it.

CTXWhat this sector runs

Device extrusion and moulding use vacuum for tube calibration and for holding parts, while packing lines use vacuum to form and seal sterile-barrier packs. Because devices are class-clean products, the vacuum source must be oil-free so nothing migrates onto surfaces that will contact patients.

Extrusion cooling and general process air add centrifugal duties, and cleanroom utilities add clean air handling. Reading the plant as oil-free vacuum for moulding and packing plus clean cooling air is the recommended structure for a device works.

ENGEngineering notes

Calibration vacuum on the tube

Tube calibration draws the extrudate against a sizing sleeve under vacuum in a cooling bath, and that vacuum touches the surface that becomes a patient-contact device. It has to be oil-free and steady, because the vacuum level helps set the tube's final dimensions. A dry YBDVP source holds calibration vacuum constant through the bath without any oil path to the product, which is exactly what a device line needs from grip to gauge.

Clean cooling for extrusion

Device extrusion cools on clean centrifugal air, kept oil-free so nothing settles on surfaces heading toward sterile assembly. The cooling has to be steady to hold tube gauge at line speed, which is a balanced-blower duty. Specifying the cooling airflow and choosing an oil-free CX machine keeps the extrusion section both dimensionally consistent and contamination-free, complementing the calibration vacuum rather than competing with it.

Clean supply for a clean product

Medical-device manufacturing holds class-clean standards, and those standards extend to the vacuum and air machinery that touches the process. Oil-free construction removes the contamination mechanism at source, but consistency matters too: a device line cannot afford a supply-driven substitution that changes the machine's behaviour mid-campaign. A stable domestic manufacturer, building the same oil-free dry pumps year after year under one quality system, keeps the vacuum source predictable — and keeps validation and change-control events rare. For a plant whose product ends up inside a patient, that predictability in the support equipment is as valuable as the cleanliness itself.

WHYWhy Yash Blowers

Device makers hold class-clean standards, so their vacuum has to be oil-free and their support responsive. Yash Blowers has built oil-free dry pumps in Faridabad since 1998 under ISO 9001:2015, casts and balances impellers in-house, and dispatches 300+ machines a day — keeping clean vacuum and its spares on an Indian chain.

FAQFrequently asked questions

Why oil-free vacuum for tube calibration?

Because calibration vacuum contacts the tube surface that becomes a patient-contact device. An oil-free YBDVP source keeps that surface free of any oil residue through the calibration bath.

What cools a device extrusion line?

Clean centrifugal process air. The CX series delivers steady cooling air for the extrusion and calibration section without introducing oil near the product.

Can one dry pump serve calibration and moulding?

Often the duties are zoned rather than shared, so a fault on one line does not pull down another. Both are oil-free, moderate-vacuum duties well suited to the YBDVP class, but the recommendation is to size each zone to its own draw and keep them independent — protecting the whole device floor from a single point of failure.
