Packaging machines use vacuum in two ways: evacuating the pack — a chamber, tray or VFFS pouch — to a deep vacuum before sealing or gas flushing, and gripping film and product on suction cups and feed belts. The pack-evacuation duty wants a deep, repeatable vacuum at a modest flow so cycle times stay tight; the pick-up duty wants quick, oil-free suction. For food and hygienic lines the whole path must stay clean, which points to a dry oil-free pump. Where the product is wet or the air carries vapour, a liquid-ring pump shrugs off moisture that would trouble a dry machine.
